Last reviewed: 01/05/23

How Lemon8 Came About

The digital world never fails to keep us on our toes, and lately, there’s been a major shift in the industry, especially when it comes to social media platforms. With TikTok facing potential bans in the USA and UK, it’s hanging on by a thread.

Meanwhile, Meta has launched a new paid verification feature, and YouTube is doing what it does best. But today, we want to introduce you to an app that’s been making waves lately – Lemon8!

While Lemon8 may not be a new player in the digital world, having been established in 2020 by TikTok’s parent company Bytedance, it’s gained popularity due to the controversy surrounding its rival platform. It’s no surprise that Lemon8 has been grabbing all the attention lately.

What Lemon8 Is.

Lemon8 is a fantastic video and photo-sharing app that sets itself apart from other platforms by not supporting vertical video scrolling. Instead, content on the app is centered around specific topics, and users create content that caters to their niche audience.

The top trending topics on Lemon8 are fashion, beauty, food, wellness, and travel. Each topic features suggestions, recommendations, and inspiring videos that showcase different perspectives on the subject matter. The content on the platform is often curated to be aesthetically pleasing, providing a visually stunning experience for users.

However, as with any social media platform, success on Lemon8 hinges on how you create content and for whom you create it. Understanding your target audience and producing content that resonates with them is key to building a loyal following on the platform.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Posting On Lemon8

If you’re looking to maximize your success on Lemon8, it’s important to understand the three key elements of your content:

  1. Cover Photo
  2. Post Title
  3. Captions

Each of these elements plays a critical role in increasing visibility, boosting engagement, and climbing the ranks in Lemon8’s algorithm. As with most social media platforms, metrics such as engagement, reach, and impressions are essential in determining your favorability with the algorithm.

COVER PHOTOS
Dos

When it comes to cover photos on Lemon8, there are several key do’s to keep in mind:

1. Collage Style images or Cut out elements are gaining popularity – Keep the designs interesting and trendy but still keep the focus on the main focus point. Lemon8 encourages creators to push their creativity boundaries and become a visible brand, and apps like Canva can be great tools to help you find your unique look and feel.

CD TIP : Try and use the in-app features.

2. Header and Subheader need to be Intriguing and captivating – This will give your audience a clear idea about what the post will be about. You can play around with creative titles and hooks. ChatGPT is a great tool to use if you are struggling with ideas for hooks. Remember hooks can be positive or negative, its about how you would like to grab the users attention

3. Be Unique – Make sure your cover photo is unique and represents your Lemon8 profile’s aesthetics and branding. Aesthetically pleasing fonts and designs can be core elements to make your profile stand out.

4. Show your face – Zesties (Lemon8 users) love to see who they’re following, so consider showcasing your face and features to make your content more relatable and personalized.

The Don’ts :

  • Don’t make use of single generic -looking image
  • Avoid using generic text that doesn’t provide any useful information.
  • Stay away from using no design elements at all.
  • Don’t make your cover photo look like an advertisement.

POST TITLES

The Do’s

1. Keep your titles exciting by using click-baity titles that intrigue users to click on your post and read the content. However, don’t mislead your audience with false or exaggerated claims.
2. Highlight a unique or interesting feature of the spot or product/service you’re showcasing in your post. This can help to grab the user’s attention and encourage them to engage with your content.
3. Keep your titles authentic and unique to your audience. Try to create titles that reflect your brand’s personality and voice, and resonate with your target audience.
4. Use good emojis to add some fun and personality to your post titles. Emojis can help to make your post stand out in the user’s feed and grab their attention.

Let’s look at some good post titles:

  • Affordable must have skincare products for the dry skin ladies.
  • $100 concealer – Is it really worth the hype
  • Top 5 pants you need in your closet for this summer – where’s my 6ft girls at
  • Show stopper dresses under $50 that will make you an A-lister this summer

CD Tip : Notice that the examples above address a specific issue or roadblock in the target audience, followed by a solution (product or service). This approach can help to grab the user’s attention and encourage them to engage with your content. Plus, you can also use your expertise and knowledge of the topic to position yourself as a thought leader in your niche.

The Don’ts:

  • Stating the obvious is a big no-no. ‘Captain obvious’ is not welcome on Lemon8 or anywhere else for that matter.
  • Do not repeat your text in the cover photo on your post title. Get creative and come up with something new that will grab the user’s attention and encourage them to engage with your content.
  • Generic and mainstream titles are so last year, so it’s time to step up your game. Consider using click-baity titles that are intriguing and exciting, and reflect the unique personality of your brand.
  • Be careful of grammatical and title errors. These mistakes can make your content look unprofessional and turn off potential followers. So take the time to proofread and edit your titles before hitting that post button.

Here are some examples of bad Titles for posts:

❌ “Trying out KFC” – This title is too generic and lacks creativity. A better title could be:
✅ “Trying KFC’s Chicken Wings – Let’s see if its finger liking good”

❌ My skincare routine – This title is too vague and doesn’t give any indication of what the content will be about. A better title could be:
✅ “My PM skincare routine for Dry Skin especially in Winter “

❌ Things to do in Seoul – This title is too generic and doesn’t stand out. A better title could be:
✅ “Top 5 things to do in Seoul to do under $60

CAPTIONS

Let’s talk about captions on Lemon8 – they’re different from any other social platform, but don’t worry, it’s quite refreshing!

Our CD Growth Managers love helping creators understand what to do and what not to do when it comes to captions. Here are some do’s and don’ts we’ve outlined for you:

The DO’s:

1. Be authentic when writing a review of a product, service, or place. The more descriptive you are, the better.
2. Provide basic information such as price, address, fabric, size, and opening hours. Transparency is everything on Lemon8.
3. Use emojis to structure your captions and make them visually appealing.
4. Personalize your captions by sharing your experiences and what you loved (or didn’t love).
5. Include a call-to-action to encourage your audience to leave a comment, save, or like your posts. Remember, engagement is the secret weapon!
6. Use relevant hashtags to make your post more visible and easier to find.

The DON’Ts:

  • Avoid chunky long paragraphs that can be mistaken for essays. Zesties love short, sweet, and to-the-point bullet-point captions.
  • Don’t provide insufficient or lack basic information.
  • Avoid generic ad-sounding captions.
  • Lastly, avoid typo or grammatical errors as they are a big no-go.

Get ready to transform into Zesties. According to Lemon8, the app will be in a ‘content accumulation’ phase in April 2023. This means that they are encouraging creators to post as much as possible during the month to potentially receive a higher reach and to get a better understanding of the type of content users enjoy on the app.

Throughout May, Lemon8 will focus on helping creators gain followers, with the hope of rewarding those who put in the effort to post during April with promotion. By September, Lemon8 plans to explore commercialization opportunities, such as helping creators make money through brand and agency deals, as well as other forms of advertising.

So, if you’re a creator looking to make a name for yourself on Lemon8, now is the perfect time to get started. Who knows, you might just become the next big thing on the platform!
